OUR MINISTRY

Founded in 1974 by Rev. David Kimball, CCS began as a church outreach into nursing homes and assisted living facilities, where the need is great, and so little ministry is found.

Nationwide, more than two million people live in nursing homes, with many more residing in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Adult Family Homes. Statistics tell us that 35% (or 750,000) of those who enter long-term care will never see a loved one after their second week of residence. Many feel cut off from friends, family, and faith community, and they hunger for the Words of Life delivered by a caring friend.

CCS chaplains bring spiritual support to thousands of our most vulnerable neighbors, providing friendship, resources, guidance and encouragement to maintain - and grow - their faith, by continuing to serve God and others in their new mission field.

Chaplains’ visits are pastoral. In addition to cheerful conversation, the chaplain may offer to read a brief Scripture selection, to pray with the resident, or sing a favorite hymn. At times he or she will leave a large-print Bible reading or booklet.

Chaplains’ services are varied: bedside visitation to the 80% of residents who cannot or choose not to leave their rooms; weekly/monthly services are provided if desired by the home; counseling of residents and staff, if requested; on call emergency visits to the home or hospital; memorial services; special occasion speaking at facility functions, accompanying residents on outings, etc.

CCS chaplains come to this ministry as trained Christian service workers with a desire to serve residents and staff. Chaplains often minister to the families of residents, providing comfort, grief counseling, guidance and encouragement, and always a listening ear.

CCS is a Mass-chartered, nonprofit, religious corporation.
