DR. BRUCE SMITH

Board President

Dr. Bruce Smith has been serving as Senior Pastor at Central Congregational Church since 2004. He was raised in a Christian home and came to know Jesus as his personal savior when he was a child. He has received degrees from the Moody Bible Institute (B.A.), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.Div.), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (D. Min.). Before his time at Central, he served as pastor of a congregation in Vancouver, British Columbia, and as a chaplain in the Chicago area.

His mission is to help everyone he knows grow to their full spiritual potential in Christ. His favorite authors are D. A. Carson, A. W. Tozer, and Martyn Lloyd-Jones. When he’s not doing church work, he spends time with his wife and six kids, coaching sports, and reading.

ANDY HEWITT

Treasurer

Andy Hewitt holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve and has CPA credentials. He is recently retired from Mechanics Cooperative Bank, where he served as CFO and has since joined the bank Board. He also serves on the Board of Pride, Inc.; Annie Maxim House; and Narragansett Council of Boy Scouts. Andy is an elder at Central Congregational Church in Middleboro.

He gave his life to the Lord in 1973. That same year, while attending the U. of Colorado, he met his first wife, Sandy. They had four children together. In 2002, she was diagnosed with ALS. Putting their full trust in the Lord, they grew stronger in their bond of faith, love, and trust for all that was ahead. Sandy died in 2005 after 28 years of marriage.

Andy remarried in 2007. Susan has become his “second blessing,” another act of God’s grace. Just as God adopts us into His family, they have now been adopted into each other’s, and have a strong love for the Lord and desire to serve Him.

Chaplain Ruth Knapp

CHAPLAIN RUTH KNAPP

Board Secretary

Ruth is active in her church and became interested in the chaplaincy while visiting friends from the church who were in nursing homes. Through the encouragement and training  of Rev. Walter Dryer, she felt led by the Lord to become a chaplain. She has great compassion for those who are in the nursing homes, particularly those without family. Ruth has been a chaplain for 16 years to bring the love of God to each resident.

Chaplain Mary Mattiace

CHAPLAIN MARY MATTIACE

Board Member

Mary has served as a chaplain with CCS for over 13 years, and as a Board Member for eight years. She feels very fortunate to act on God's behalf in service to the elderly, which is her act of love and worship to her Savior.
